Twitter uses some third party cookies in order to show embedded tweets. You can read about how they use cookies in twitter’s cookie policy. By accepting cookies this site can show you embedded tweets, which is useful as they may use gifs/videos. If you refuse cookies it will instead show a regular link.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is used in order to collect anonymous stats. This site uses cookies (_ga, _gid) in order to distinguish users and (_ga_<container-id>) for persisting session state. If you choose to accept, these cookies will be created and Google Analytics will collect stats. If you refuse, no cookies related to Google Analytics will be stored and no stats will be collected. You can also alternatively choose to opt-out of Google Analytics using their Browser add-on.
Collects stats include :
- First Visit, Session Start
- Page views
- Scrolls (detects reaching the bottom of a page)
- Outbound Clicks (detects clicking links that lead you to a different site)
- Engagement Time
The following data is also tracked for user demographics :
- Anonymised IP address (last octet set to 0, more info here). Also used to derive location data (Country and City)
- Operating System / Device type/model & Browser (e.g. Windows 10, Chrome)
- Screen Resolution
- Language of device/OS (e.g. English)
Google Analytics collects this data by default. It will always be kept private. (I’m mostly interested in the page views but doesn’t seem to be a way to disable the user stuff)
